Brazil's striker Ronaldo came second with a £9.1 million total gained through marketing campaigns last year. France's Zinedine Zidane was also targeted by advertisers. He earned £4.5 million last year.

Other English players to make it into the top 20 players for marketers were Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Rio Ferdinand.
