Capability Jane

Businesses in the South East can now recruit high-flying Mums on a flexible basis through recruitment firm Calamity Jane, the first company devoted to returning highly-skilled mothers to flexible work.

Capability Jane matches talented women who have taken a career break and are looking for flexible working arrangements with companies that value their experience and expertise. They specialise in providing a channel back into the workplace that enables talented women to utilise their skills yet maintain the right work-life balance.

According to a government survey, around 70% of female professionals do not return to work after a career break because of long hours, commuting, or the requirement to work full time 5 days a week. Yet nearly 70% of this group were found to be keen to return to work – if they could find a suitably challenging role which allowed flexible working.

Capability Jane’s founder Sara Hill, herself an ex-marketing director, launched the company to address this need. “Women today often delay starting a family until their thirties in order to build a successful career. On returning to work after a career break they therefore bring with them at least ten years of business and management experience” she says. Indeed the South East contains hundreds of experienced women in fields such as marketing, HR, Finance, IT, and Law. Many are looking for flexible jobs but don’t know where to find them.

There are also many organizations who want to take on high-calibre talent without the need to employ them full time. These staff are typically hard to find through the traditional recruitment channels. “These women don’t want big salaries, impressive titles, or fat benefit packages” says Sara. “They want to use their brains again but have the right work-life balance. They are very motivated. Having a career that fits well with family life provides them with a real sense of fulfillment”.
