International Womens Day Event inspires and motivates

Local businesswomen recently celebrated International Women’s Day with a networking and workshop evening at Reading University, held by the Success Network.

Joint-founders of The Success Network, Mary Fraser and Ute Wieczorek-King, introduced a series of discussions and speakers woven into an interactive workshop with an emphasis on personal achievement and business success.

The guest-speakers shared their experiences of running diverse businesses, from selling Mexican jewellery to marketing your business on the Internet. Alejandro Cerrillo of ‘More Precious Than Silver’, Nina Sian of Slough Enterprise Gateway and Jayne Reddyhoff of ‘The AdWord Adviser’ related the personal and professional challenges that face them as women in business.

“By celebrating International Women’s Day in this way, we hope to introduce more local business women to the benefits of events like this, in order to help them overcome barriers in business” said Ute.

Mary adds “Our aim is to connect all professional and business women and provide them with stepping stones to success that include peer level support , encouragement and motivation, and for that it is more important than ever that we keep talking!”

Sponsored by women owned businesses including SJ Copy, Afresh and Alison Crown Photography, the successful evening showed that women benefit greatly from having access to women - owned business networks as well as from having successful female role models. The 30 entrepreneurial women from different industries who attended this event are both admiring and learning from a very diverse range of enterprising women, from Anita Roddick to inspirational mothers and grandmothers.

The evening ended with an informal networking session and a chance to make new business contacts. What ladies said of this inspiring event: "One word- Fantastic!"

“Very enjoyable. It makes you stop your 'routine clock' to think about yourself, your career and where you are going which otherwise is lost in the everyday rush!"
