Whole Foods Store - set to open June 6th
On June 6, West London's oldest and grandest department store Barkers, will be known as the "big" Whole Foods Market. It is America's largest, "natural" supermarket and food-retail phenomenon of the US. With 80,000sq ft the store will stock Organic, natural and chemical-free products.
Most of the food giants in the UK concentrate on cheap versus quality, where as the Whole Foods Market focuses on quality at high prices - and reaping the profits.
It is expected that around 400 - 500 people will be employed at the Whole Foods Market. Cooking demonstrations, product samplings and in-house eateries will mingle with thousands of the freshest and finest natural and organic offerings in every area of the store, with a focus on procuring foods from local growers, food artisans and manufacturers.
The companies philosophy is to become an integral part of the community by actively sponsoring events, donating food and money to local causes, providing volunteer opportunities for Team Members, and becoming a neighborhood gathering place.
Only time will tell how the new store will impact on local independent stores. Watch this space...........
