Add a drop of support for Water Day 2009.

The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water by adopting a resolution. This world day for water was to be observed starting in 1993, in conformity with the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development contained in chapter 18 (Fresh Water Resources) of Agenda 21.

There are various ways that you can support Water Day in the UK -

Tap in to Water - Restaurants, cafes, bars cand support WaterAid by asking customers to make a donation when they order tap water.
  • One in eight people in the developing world do not have access to safe water

  • 5,000 children die every day from water-related diseases

  • Just £15 could enable one person in the developing world to gain access to a lasting supply of safe water, sanitation and hygiene education
