Westpac Bank provides eco alternatives for customers |
|
With the long history, Westpac NZ are now providing an ecoshop, an online store specialising in eco-conscious products. It enables Westpac's online banking customers to purchase these products with discounted prices and free delivery. Even with the economic gloom, Westpac NZ is helping its customers make better choices for the environment. Sustainability goals are a key consideration in Westpac's purchasing decisions, extending from its car fleet to banking technology and design features in its Corporate Offices, which are green star rated. In December 2008, Westpac became the first bank in the world to achieve CEMARS - Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme certification as part of its strategy to reduce its carbon footprint. The Ecoshop is quite separate from its banking operations, though its a practical way for the bank to help its customers to be more environmentally conscious. Head of Corporate Responsibility, Suzie Marsden is quoted in saying "Westpac ecoshop caters to the growing number of 'Solution Seekers' - those consumers making conscious choices to live differently". Perhaps one or two of the UK Banks could become greener instead of green washing and provide an eco option for their customers... Take a green leaf out of the Westpac... information from Westpac NZ press release. |
