This year's Energy Saving Week takes place from 20th to 26th October and it is the event's twelfth year.
The Energy Saving Trust's aim is to help consumers learn how they can reduce their carbon footprint and show savings can be made in time, energy and most importantly money. The following are tips which businesses as well as homes can make simple changes which can help save money during these leaner times. Tip 1 It takes 1 minute to turn the thermostate down by 1 degree. This single degree change can help save your business or household nearly £65.00. Tip 2 When leaving a room switch the light off. Tip 3 Plastic bags are a concern when there are over 13 billion bags given out in the UK. This equates to around 215 plastic bags per person for the population of the UK. Reuse, or look at a stronger canvas, organic or fair trade cotton bags. Tip 4 Look for Energy Saving logo when purchasing new electrical appliances. Tip 5 We humans like to keep warm and put a jacket on when it's cold. Do the same for your hot water tank. An insulating jacket for the hot water tanks cost only a few ponds and pays for itself within months. If you fit one that is about 75mm or 3' thick it can help save you £40.00 a year. Tip 6 Water butts - great for watering the garden or even the car. Tip 7 Compost, compost, you save filling up your rubbish bin and the compost can then be used within your garden. The above are just 7 energy saving tips which can help save you ££'s as well as the environment.
