Veggie boxes are hit by credit crunch
A weekly organic box delivery was once the ultimate "trendy" foodie.

However, it now seems that dirty potatoes, the curly kale and the fresh salad is being picked at by those who are suffering from the credit crunch.

Many families have been cancelling their boxes, deeming them an "unaffordable luxury" in the economic downturn, and have returned to buying their vegetables from the supermarket.

The cancellations are starting to cause serious problems for some of the smaller organic delivery companies, which are already battling with record fuel prices and the rising value of the euro.

Many large box schemes estimate that at least 10 per cent of it's customer base has stopped receiving deliveries since the beginning of the year. They are forecasting that these figures will rise to another 20 percent by the end of summer.

People are worried about the economy, therefore cutting back on the average £15 a week box is to be seen as an easy saving.

No matter how cheap the the organic delivery companies argue that their produce is cheaper than that of organic supermarket produce, it still is much more expensive than non-organic groceries.

Does really stopping your veggie box really do help in the long run?
