recycled kimono bags and bears |
|||
Most second hand kimono are either being thrown away or recycled to produce wonderful bespoke items of clothing, bags or even bears.
The bears and bags shown here are a very small selection of what is available. All the bags are hand made by a Japanese lady who lives in Nara-ken, south of Japan. I have known her for 17 years, as I stayed with her when I was an exchange student, some many years ago. Each one is handcrafted and are unique in design. Particular patterns can be made depending on the style of bag required. The ladies daughter, who actually lived with my family nearly 20 years ago hand makes the bears. Again, each bear is carefully selected and handmade. The bears arms and legs are jointed and again are bespoke. Majority of the kimono used dates between 1940 and 1990. All the fabric is of course silk and some are even handpainted. Whether you wish to have the traditional shibori style bag or bear, retro coloured bear or even the traditional indigo blue are available.
