Holidaying the eco friendly way?
Holiday's are meant to be an enjoyable time when you visit - whether it is for a short weekend visit or two week holiday somewhere in the sun.

With many Companies providing "offsetting climate miles" it is very easy to feel that you are doing your "bit" to help the environment.

Though are you really???

Your route to the holiday maybe as follows:
  • Travel to the airport - own car, bus or taxi

  • Airplane travel - average 4 hour journey (carbon footprint has been offset thanks to a click off a button)

  • Travel from airport to Hotel or Accommodation at destination - hire car, bus or taxi

  • Or even still you may drive your own car, bike to the destination

Then you have the following
  • Food

  • Drink

  • Amenities

  • Travel whilst at Holiday destination

  • Tourist Gifts

  • Products you take with you

  • Rubbish

  • etc....
All the above can add to having a negative impact on the destination environment.

There is indeed various solutions - and that does not mean staying at home during the summer or winter holiday periods.

Why not look at Holiday's that provide and support for:
  • Local, natural, biodynamic and even organic food, produce, etc

  • Help work on a organic, biodynamic farm

  • Look at supporting a local environmental project where the holiday is

  • Visit Holiday areas that are environmentally friendly

  • Stay local - plenty of UK Eco friendly Holiday houses, B&B's

  • How about travel half way to meet the family and share a eco house perhaps?

  • House, Flat swap with people - locally, nationally or even internationally
Also, with increasing costs in fuel, food, heating... Look at alternatives.
