Why Organic?
we should eat organic food
- Taste - Organic food does taste different
- Lack of drugs - The overuse of antibiotics on farm animals and it's possible effects on humans is an ongoing concern.
- Wildlife and Environment - Better for wildlife, less polution, less carbon dioxide and fewer dangerous wastes.
- High Standards - Trusted sources which are inspected, certified and must adhere to standards set down in European Law.
- Costs - Not hidden. Removal of chemicals of drinking water mainly due to pesticides used in conventional farming that cost taxpayers around £120 million (source Soil Association)
- Healthy - higher levels of vital vitamins, minerals and antioxidants
- Additives - NO - MSG, ASPARTAME, HYDROGENATED FAT are all banned from the Soil Associations accreditation body)
- Pesticides - Over 400 pesticides are used in conventional farming and residues are found in non organic food*.
- Humane treatment of animals - Seriously considered under organic standards.
- GM - Not allowed
* Chips, spinach, lettuce, bread, apples, celery, have recently been found with high levels of residues.
