England to decide on World Cup bid |
With the 2006 World Cup in Germany just around the corner the Football Association (FA) is to decide on bidding for the 2018 competition.
The FA has announced it is mulling over whether to make a bid or not and a decision will be made in the next few months. FA director of communication Adrian Bevington said: "A bid to bring the World Cup Finals back to England in 2018 will be given serious consideration. "But it will be at least next autumn before we would put any definite proposals in place." However, chances of a bid going ahead have increased as the government has already announced it would support any bid, following the success of London in gaining the Olympics. England's case for holding the World Cup will no doubt be strengthened by the high number of top quality stadia. Alongside the new Wembley stadium, which will be one of the greatest football venues in the world, Manchester United's Old Trafford, being extended to seat 76,000, and Arsenal's new Emirates stadium, the country has some of the best grounds around. © Adfero 2005 |
