Preparing for 2007
You could do nothing. Just keep on doing what you have always been doing. It’ll most probably mean that 2007 will be just like 2006. Unless of course your market changes, your customers needs change or the competition doesn’t stand still and becomes more competitive. It seems like a better idea to do something, but what? Start by setting yourself 5 simple goals that you will aim to achieve by this time next year. Here’s a few ideas to get you started:
By the end of 2007:
1) Revenues will have increased by more than XXXX and profits to XXX
2) Customer satisfaction will have risen by XXX
3) My lead/win ratio will have improved by XXXX
4) I will provide XXX leads for my customers & prospects
5) I will spend xx of my time networking outside the business and meeting customers/prospects
That’s the “what” bit sorted out. The next step is the strategies or, “How” you are going to achieve those objectives. Start by thinking about what you do today and ask yourself if you do nothing different will you be able to meet your objectives. If the answer is no write down what you are going to do differently. Don’t try to complete everything at once, if the words aren’t flowing put it down and come back to it. In the end you should have about a page of objectives, strategies and some of the things that you aren’t going to do anymore. Congratulations you now have a simple business plan. Now all you have to do is implement the plan through the year checking that everything still makes sense and that you are on track for a great 2007.
Or of course you could still do nothing and hope for the best!
