Thames Valley Business Awards 2009

Top honours at stake in region’s major business awards

Top business bosses from throughout the region are being urged to enter the prestigious Thames Valley Business Awards 2009.

Categories for the awards, now in their 15th year, have just been announced and leading real estate advisers Vail Williams revealed as a major new sponsor.

Former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Lord Lamont, will be guest of honour and speaker at the black tie event on November 19, which will be hosted by popular TV presenter Mark Curry.

Awards chairman David Murray, said: “We delighted that Lord Lamont will be joining us on this very auspicious occasion and have no doubt that he will be a thought-provoking and inspiring speaker, we certainly look forward to hearing his own views on the current state of the economy.”

Both employers and employees have the chance to put their company forward for the new Vail Williams-sponsored title, entitled The Best Place to Work Award and judges will be looking for organisations which have introduced innovative initiatives to make their environment a great place to work.

Seeking winners for The Business Management Team will be sponsor The Royal Bank of Scotland. For the last three years running, the title has been won by Wokingham-based Leasedrive Velo – achieving an awards record.

Companies which have displayed a dynamic passion for growth are being sought for The Dynamic Business Award, sponsored by Deloitte, while Pitmans is sponsoring The Thames Valley Business of the Year.

Previous winners of these categories have included Maidenhead company SDL International, Aerial Facilities, DriveTech, The Game Group and O2.

In addition, for the first time, the small business category has been expanded to include medium-sized companies as well, for a new title of SME* of the Year Award.

Murray added: “We all know that times are incredibly tough in the economy, but there are positive signs and those companies that take steps now to promote themselves will be best placed to take advantage of new market opportunities.

“The awards have an excellent reputation for credibility and authority within the business community and provide a high-profile platform for organisations to use them as a springboard for future success. We hope that as many businesses as possible, both large and small, will be keen to enter.”

During his tenure at Number 11 Downing Street, Norman Lamont introduced three budgets and oversaw Britain’s exit from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) in 1992.
Today, he is both a director of, and a consultant for, a number of companies in the financial sector.
