Thames Hospicecare is a local charity providing specialist palliative care for adults with advanced cancer and other life limiting illness - but looking after people in the last days of their lives is only a small part of what we do.
Having an advanced illness can raise all sorts of practical, physical and emotional issues, which affect not only the patient, but their loved ones too. The Hospice aims to help tackle these issues, offering specialist advice and support for the whole family.
It costs an astounding £5 million for every single year to provide our services.
£572 pays for a nights In-Patient care The average stay is 11 days with 75% of patients returning home.
£62 per hour pays for one hour of THc Hospice at Home nursing care. The average session is 3 hours and this is a service that needs to increase to meet the growing need.
£156 pays for a patient to come to the Day Support Unit for the day. Patients attend once a week for an average of 12 weeks.
£48 pays for a Physiotherapy session. Helps patients to manage changes in their mobility.
£162 pays for a patient to attend the Out-Patient Clinic. Patients attend weekly, fortnightly depending upon need. They are seen by the medical team and receive treatments aimed at supporting their symptoms.
Patients are not charged for the care they receive at Thames Hospicecare (THc) and government only pays for quarter of our costs. That means we rely on donations from local people to raise 75p out of every £1 we spend.
Support comes in many ways and taking part in THc events is one very important way. If you would like to join in any of the events please contact us on 08456 128812, we would love to hear from you .

Just Giving
01/04/2008
In preparing for this year's fundraising campaign I asked Sue what was the best way to make donating easy, below is her reply: 'The very best thing will be to set up your own on-line electronic web site with www.justgiving.com. You load up your own image and story, you can also set your links to it off your site. Friends/colleagues sponsor you direct on the site.'
