2006 a Good Year for High-Tech Gadget Fans
2006 proved to be an exciting year for gadget fans following a series of high-profile product and software launches. From Apple's MacBook, Sony’s Playstation 3, through to Nintendo Wii, it’s been a year of high-tech gadgetry success.
Early in 2006 we saw the launch of Apple's MacBook. The device features a host of unique new and innovative features and delivers the power of the Intel Core 2 Duo — the latest generation of Intel processors. The specification includes a built-in iSight camera for video chatting on the go; iLife ’06; Front Row; a glossy 13-inch widescreen display; even dual-display support.
In the lead up to the Christmas shopping season, both Nintendo and Sony unveiled new game consoles. Sony's PlayStation3 features an amazing computing power of 2 teraflops, allowing entirely new graphical expressions that have never been seen before. In games, this means movement of characters and objects will be far more refined and realistic, with landscapes and virtual worlds rendered in real-time, elevating the freedom of graphics expression to levels not experienced in the past. Gamers can leap into the realistic world usually seen in large screen movies and experience the excitement in real-time.
For many games fans though, the Nintendo Wii has been the real success story of 2006. The distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions. Notable among the console's internal features is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while consuming very little electrical power. The device is generally accepted as the pointer towards next-generation gaming.
