VoIP can save "substantial" amounts for SMEs
Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could benefit from new technologies such as voice over internet protocol (VoIP) or Skype, an industry specialist has suggested.

Spokesperson for Technology Means Business Phil Flaxton commented that early adopters of the technology can save considerable amounts of money.

"There are of course substantial cost savings that can be achieved by using VoIP and things like Skype," he said.

However, Mr Flaxton remarked that the requirements of a company change with the purpose of the business, noting that there are three million different small to medium-sized enterprises around the country.

Some small businesses have struggled to cope with the adoption of new technologies, while others have embraced the concept, he added.

In related news, outsourcing IT work can benefit some companies, an expert from Get Safe Online has stated.

The managing director, Tony Neate, noted that many businesses are still not utilising the expertise of web technology specialists, urging businesses that trade online as those that particularly require professional help.
