Security application should aid firms
Microsoft has said that it is to release a new computer device that may be of interest to directors who want to improve security on IT systems.
It will be compatible with Office 2003 and will attempt to ward against viruses by converting Excel and Word files to OpenXML files.
Called Microsoft Office Isolated Conversion Environment (Moice), the system changes the files amid a sandbox setting and Microsoft claims that this will destabilise any potential viruses that could harm saved data.
Moice gives users the option of pre-processing any potentially rogue files and therefore will enable customers to feel more at ease with the applications they deploy, Microsoft suggests.
Microsoft is pleased with the new development, saying it was an exciting one and should be a welcome relief to businesses.
"The mere process of conversion and achieving one of three possible outcomes is what protects customers," the firm said.
Microsoft is the biggest provider of computer software in the world and was founded in 1975.
