IT Problems Waste 20 Hours a Month
A recent report by BT suggests firms in the UK waste on average 20 hours every month dealing with frustrating IT issues. Computers that run slowly were cited as the most common cause of problems, followed by emails that mysteriously went astray.
It’s a problem which makes a dent in productivity and profits – some businesses spend up to £5,000 a month resolving IT problems. 36% of the businesses polled said they encountered IT problems on a daily basis whilst 66% said they faced weekly IT challenges. 33% said they wasted at least 20 hours each month in search of a solution.
The businesses in question had up to 100 employees, 69% of which have an in-house support team for their IT requirements. Yet some say they still spend around £5,000 a month fixing IT related problems.
Interestingly these statistics were compiled from the results of players who took part in BT’s online ‘Office Warfare’ game, a fast-paced fun game which gave business owners the chance to take their revenge on frustrating IT problems using an array of office equipment as weapons to fight the IT gremlins. As the game progresses, participants are asked questions about their own experiences with IT in the workplace.
BT have developed a package called BT Business IT Manager to address the problems small to medium sized businesses face in trying to keep IT problems under control. Essentially it works like a virtual IT Manager but at minimal cost. Customers report a 99% satisfaction rate.
A spokesperson for BT Business added: “So much of the working day can be wasted if you don’t have the right support to prevent and solve problems when systems don’t perform properly.”
