Bronze Mother Gorilla and Child - Bronze Sculpture
"NO CLOSER"
Dimensions: W 8.5” H 10.5” D 16”
This piece depicts the degree of nurture involved in nature. A baby gorilla sleepily huddles close to its mother’s breast whilst the latter casts a menacing gaze towards any potential threats. The title – in the imperative – suggests the role of protector that the mother has assumed over her infant as she desperately attempts to ward off any danger. The mother has yet to face her body towards the threat posed by the unseen intruder and, reluctant to disturb the sleeping babe, her head alone boldly faces the looming trouble.
No Closer illuminates the importance of the gorilla mother’s role in the upbringing of her child. The mother acts as both protector and life giver; her milk essential to the survival of the infant until it is large enough to fend for itself in the wild.
