Bronze Chimpanzee
"Contemplation"
Dimensions: W 6.5” H 9” D 8.5” Contemplation represents the human element in Sally Amoore’s sculpture. Akin to Rodin’s Le Penseur (‘The Thinker’), this work of art presents the onlooker with an animal in the process of contemplation. The hands crossed, the feet clasped together, and the head rested meditatively on the forearms are all suggestive of the chimpanzee’s retreat inside his own mind. The slightly downcast gaze and the hunched body position of the chimp only serve to elucidate and emphasise this moment of reflection. The introspective element in this sculpture recalls mankind’s likeness to the ape, reminding the viewer of his primordial and ancestral heritage. With this bronze sculpture, the artist has managed to capture the inextricably entwined worlds of the human and the animal. There is a type of serenity at work in this sculpture that implores the human viewer to partake in peaceful contemplation, insisting that the animal kingdom and the human world conjoin. |
