Bronze Bear
"Study in Brown"
Dimensions: W 9.5” H 13.5” D 11.5”
One of the most playful bronze pieces in Sally Amoore’s collection of sculptures, Study in Brown depicts an animal caught in a state of contemplative contentment.
The bear’s nonchalant pose, his foot clasped casually by his paw, emits an air of relaxed satisfaction. Yet, beneath this speciously unassuming manner, there lies an element of dominance and control. At the pinnacle of the food chain, this dangerous predator can well afford such nonchalant arrogance, secure in the knowledge that he is untouchable. The gaze directed over his shoulder, although gentle, is that of an animal in command of his surroundings, his relaxed gait exuding an air of unthreatened power.
Study in Brown successfully manages to combine two seemingly contradictory characteristics that belong to the predator alone. The bear’s graceful majesty has been expertly juxtaposed alongside his innate power and his inherent dominance over other animals in the food chain.
