Raising money for the rehabilitation of our wounded soldiers

Sally is raising money for Help for Heroes after her son was wounded in Afghanistan and she would like to say thank you to all of our boys and girls sent away from their families to fight on our behalf … and especially those doctors and nurses that ensured her youngest son is safely back home and within arms reach.

Sally’s Sahara Trek JustGiving site…

“My challenge, in order to raise money for the rehabilitation of our wounded soldiers, is a 10 day trek across the Sahara. It is my way of saying ‘thank you’ to them for their tireless and selfless efforts on our behalf. My target is a minimum of £3,000 but there is always the sky! Everything you donate will go towards the rehabilitation and personal recovery centres now being built around the country which will enable our soldiers to return to duty, or in some cases, a smooth transition to civilian life.

Some of you might know that my son was severely wounded in 2009 - I have seen at first hand the remarkable spirit and determination of our wounded to get up and 'crack on'. Please help Help for Heroes to give them the means to make their monumental effort a little easier.”

Back from the Front by Sally Amoore

Miles Amoore, Sally’s other son was a freelance journalist in Afghanistan when James was wounded and wrote this excellent piece on war. It won him Foreign Press Association’s Feature Print Web Award and led to a contract with The Sunday Times.

Blood brothers scarred by war
In search of life as a war correspondent, Miles Amoore went to Afghanistan to report. Last week in Helmand, as he waited to fly to the front line, he learnt that his younger brother, an army officer, had been severely wounded by a Taliban bomb

He’s now been nominated for Young Journalist of the Year
