Europe Online More Than US
A recent study indicates Europeans spend far more time online than their American cousins. We go online more often AND we tend to stay online longer once we’re there. The study polled internet users from 16 countries throughout Europe.
The results are of course good news for online marketers keen to tap into the European market. The study, conducted by comScore, polled users throughout Europe to determine their online habits on a typical day (in April). The figures showed that 122 million Europeans were online during the day, compared to 114 million in the US. The average European accesses the internet 16 days a month (based on April figures) and spends around 24 hours online in total.
UK surfers are actually the most active bunch, with more than 21 million accessing the web for 21 days every month. In April, that meant a total of 34 hours a month. Germany has the highest number of people online: over 32.5 million use the internet. Internet users in the Netherlands and Scandinavia spend the most time online.
The study represents strong opportunities for online marketers wishing to access the European market. Not only are Europeans spending more and more time online, they are also comfortable doing so.
