Royal Wedding Excitement - Windsor Town Makes Final Touches

When I visited Windsor on Wednesday, it seemed that even the downpours couldn’t dampen the excitement over the impending Royal Wedding. The High Street was bustling with tourists and Brits alike, with parties of school kids gathering outside the Guildhall and camera crews setting up camp on every balcony. Flags were flying from rooftops and there was a general feeling of anticipation in the air.

The Harte and Garter hotel, which houses the official press office, overlooks Windsor Castle and had hordes of camera people jostling for the best angle up on their ornate balconies. Further down the High Street, and with prime views of the Guildhall, the Macdonald Castle hotel has set up a webcam for the ceremonial events surrounding the wedding.

You can log on to it from any PC in the world – click on www.royalweddingcam.com.The hotel is hosting special Royal Afternoon Cream Teas to visitors tomorrow, and best of all they still have 5 rooms left if you want to stay!

Shops in the town are embracing the excitement. Woods of Windsor told me that they’re sending Charles and Camilla a specially designed hamper of their finest goods today, along with a card. The hamper will be made up of men’s and women’s fragrances to enable the happy couple to pamper themselves in preparation for the wedding day. Woods of Windsor say they are staunch Camilla-supporters, and wish the couple all the best.

The Leapfrog card shop, three doors down from the Guildhall, have let their balcony out to the BBC – everyone’s making the most of what the Royal Wedding will bring to the town. They wouldn’t usually open on a Saturday but are making an exception tomorrow! Most coffee shops and snack bars are drafting in extra staff and opening at 6am to feed the crowds and camera crews.

It looks like tomorrow will be a great day – and Windsor’s ready!
