Royal Wedding Memorabilia: Shopping News From The Front Line

Forget all you've heard about there being no Charles and Camilla memorabilia out there. You can everything your little tea-towel-loving heart desires in the gift shops of Windsor - or at least you can if you're fast enough.

A trip in to the pretty royal town today revealed that commemorative ware - from teaspoons to tankards - is flying off the shelves faster than the proverbial hot cakes. Staff in Glorious Britain on the High Street can't restock fast enough and they've got some Aynsley commemorative crockery new in. We bought an understated Charles and Camilla bookmark and a funky keyring for £5.49

Curiously, it's anything with the original 8th April date on it that's proving most sought after. Although updated goods are now coming in to the stores, savvy shoppers are shunning them for their erroneous counterparts. "I suppose they have more novelty value and people think they'll be worth more", one shop owner commented.

And it's not just older shoppers and Americans who are snapping up the silver spoons. Kashmir Dillon, manageress of the "Windsor Crafts & Woollens Centre" on the High Street (where we bought a tea towel for £5.99 - but couldn't get one with the wrong date on it!) has noticed that Brits of all ages are keen to get their hands on anything with C&C on it. With most shops selling jigsaws, postcards, tea towels, spoons, tankards, thimbles and keyrings, there's a lot to buy - and it's all being bought. Contrary to press rumour, there's no lack of demand, and the Royal Wedding is proving popular. Spirits amongst shoppers and shopkeepers alike was high today in Windsor, and the atmosphere on the 9th looks set to be electric.
