Royal Wedding To Go Ahead on 8th Despite Funeral Clash

No changes are to be made to Royal Wedding plans for this Friday, April 8th, despite a strong chance that the ceremony will clash with the date for the funeral of Pope John Paul II. The funeral is set for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of this week but Clarence House has stated that "If the funeral falls on Friday, the wedding will still go ahead.”

The couple are determined to press on with the ceremony as soon as they can, Lord St John of Fawsley confirmed. "I think they are so anxious to get April 8 out of the way if there was an eclipse of the sun they would stick to that date”. He admitted that the Pope’s funeral might turn attention away from the Royal event but suggested that “that would not be entirely unwelcome.”

For a wedding already lacking in public support, it is unclear what effect this clash of dates would have on public opinion, particularly from the Catholic sector.

This clash of dates is the latest in a series of glitches to beset Royal Wedding preparation from the day it was announced. Let’s just hope that they can get through this week without any series hitches and enjoy their day on Friday.
