River cruise goes down a storm

Excited pensioners enjoyed a trip on the river, thanks to a combined effort by some of the area's leading businessmen and women. The two-hour evening trip on a French Brothers boat from Runnymede towards Windsor and back attracted over 80 pensioners.

They were hosted by the Working Together group. This is a joint working group that boasts members of Windsor, Maidenhead and Slough's Rotary Clubs, Windsor & Eton Inner Wheel and Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead Soroptimists.

Mike Brown, President of Windsor St George Rotary Club said, "By joining forces and working together Rotary and other service clubs can do so much more. Each pensioner received personal treatment from being picked up from home or their day centre right through until they were returned home."

The guests enjoyed a chicken supper and weather was kind to them. Mike continues, "It had been a very hot week but the thunder and rain earlier in the day cleared the air for a wonderfully welcome cool breeze on the trip. All appreciated it but I have to admit the weather was the one thing we could not organise ourselves. We needed a bit of help."

Also joining the cruise were mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Margeret Cubley and her husband Geoffrey, plus mayor of Slough Councillor David MacIsaac.
