2010 Jubilee Tribute Competition for the Queen
|
|
Your chance to tell us how Windsor should mark the
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.2012 is an important year for Windsor as it is The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee; the Queen will have reigned for 60 years. In history, only Queen Victoria has had a longer reign.
Local community organisations, co-ordinated by the Windsor and Eton Society, would like to mark this occasion with a permanent memorial because of the Queen’s special attachment to Windsor.
The Windsor and Eton Society is inviting members of the public to make suggestions as the type and location of this memorial has not been decided. The aim of this competition is to select the most appropriate proposal from those submitted.
As a prize those judged to have produced the best ten ideas will be invited to a reception in early 2011 hosted by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, where the winner and two runners-up will be announced.
The memorial will be funded by local subscription.
We hope that the Queen will inaugurate the memorial and the winner and runners-up will be invited to this event as an additional part of their prize.

GUIDANCE NOTES
Name. Anyone can make a proposal for the Diamond Jubilee Memorial, either as an individual or as a group. The named person should be the primary contact. There is no restriction on making a proposal as an individual, if that person also contributes to a group entry. No more than two suggestions can be accepted from any named individual or group. Although suggestions will be accepted from individuals or groups irrespective of their location, the judges will give preference to those coming from within the locality.
Organisation. If the suggestion is being made by an organisation, please note both the organisation's name and its affiliation to the town. The organisation doesn't need to be based in Windsor, Eton or Maidenhead, but it should preferably have some connection with the town.
Your suggestion. Ideas should be linked to the town. They should be original, innovative and new: something that reflects the current age, yet pays respect to both the town’s heritage and its connection with the Queen; an idea perhaps that will add interest to the town, and a fitting memorial of the Jubilee.
As Windsor already has a jubilee statue of Queen Victoria, a fountain celebrating the royal house of Windsor and the Queen Alexandra gardens, it would be great to have suggestions which propose an alternative memorial.
Remember also that, if your suggestion is likely to take more than a year to make, this will affect its chances of winning. Suggestions have to be practical and on not too large a scale.
Location. The memorial will be located in the town centre so that it is seen by as many people as possible. Any requirement for land should be taken into consideration, especially as there is not a great deal of open space in the town centre.
Cost. The memorial is going to be paid for by local subscription, and so any suggestion has to be within an achievable amount of local funding. The judges will take the memorial’s likely cost into consideration when selecting the competition winners. Please provide your best estimate for us to check.
To enter the competition, please, complete the entry form.
