Langley Paper Company team makes 90 glorious points in Stableford Golf

A team from David John Paper broke the record with 90 glorious points in Slough Rotary’s seventh annual golf day at Windlesham Golf Club on the 25th September. The event was a sell out, with 20 teams competing for the prized, crystal Saraogi Trophy, presented by former club President and Slough physician, Dr Krishna Saraogi. With 11 of the 18 holes attracting sponsorship and with a host of other valuable prizes such as a 3 day golf break in Portugal, golf at Stoke Park and the Buckinghamshire Clubs, this popular competition raised just over £5000 for worthwhile causes in this year’s Rotary calendar. The Jim McKenzie Memorial Prize, for ‘nearest to the pin’, a weeks stay in an exclusive apartment in Switzerland, with golf included, was won by retired Slough GP Dr Surrinder Kumar. This year’s Saraogi Trophy Golf Day, the seventh in the series, was supported by the Anand Club, a friendship and charity group based in Ash Vale Surrey. The Golf took place in perfect weather and was followed by an awards dinner for 120 contestants and friends in the evening. The raffle and auction raised over £2,000. Roger Home, President of the Slough Rotary Club, commented: “This was not an ordinary affair. We had very high-end prizes, which seemed to attract people even in these hard times. Not being a golfer myself, I particularly had my eye on the Honda lawnmower in the raffle – but alas it was not meant to be! Most importantly, we raised more money than we expected, which is great news for the local charities supported by Rotary. “With individual handicaps of 16, 7 and two members on 5, scoring 90 points in Stableford was a fabulous result, it must be the golfing story of the week”, said Steve Gould, captain of the David John team, “My team carried me around until I made a birdie on the last hole to contribute something.” |
