Mid-Summer Fayre in Windsor |
27th June 2009 and Windsor held its Mid-summer Fayre. Alexander Gardens was overflowing with visitors from all corners of the globe.
A man from Iran, on seeing my rotary bib he came over and introduced himself, shaking my hand while explaining that he had been to The Rotary International Convention 2009 in Birmingham. • A Chinese family were sharing out their huge pot of noodles in the park. • Boys from Windsor Boys School were beating out the rhythm using Indian drums. • And I was joined by my Auzzi mate David McCullock who helped me sell over 100 duck tickets on the day! Many local charities stalls were raising funds for many good causes. And we had an international flavour with Humanity First. Punch was beating Judy! The Windsor Wheel was taking visitors higher than ever to get a bird’s eye view of the Windsor Castle, Eton College and surrounding area. The Rotarians were focussed on selling ducks for the Royal Windsor Duck Race 2009. Entries were £2 and the top prize was £500! There were 14 runners up prizes and we sold over 2000 ducks. Along with Beaumont Hotel and Conference Centre we invited local businesses to sponsor business ducks at £25. This gives them a higher profile on the Rotary web space and the chance to enjoy a Pimms in the networking marquee. Winners of the Windsor Business Duck Race 2009 Business Ducks 30, 101, 17, 27, 63 Prizes Day Boat Trip for 12, Beaumont House 10 delegate Day meeting, Case of Wine from Waitrose, Purple Penguin Marketing Blogg & Business in Berkshire package Over 100 business ducks were sold and the winning duck was sponsored by Bracknell Royal Naval Association's Paul Bidwell who was unable to join us on the day as he was the driving force behind Bracknell’s Armed Forces Day. Thank you to all the thousands of men, women and children who joined us for the Mid-summer Fayre and we hope to see you next year. |
