Rotary ‘Twins’ support adopted school

It was two years ago when the German Rotary Club of Bremen-Hansa, visiting the town for their twin club’s, Slough Rotary, 75th Anniversary, proposed a joint charity award to mark the occasion. Slough’s anniversary year was also the first time that the club decided to adopt a Slough school as part of their President’s Citation programme, agreed with Rotary International to promote the club’s ‘all-rounder’ status. So it was an easy next step to show the visiting German delegation around the school. Arbour Vale had recently moved to their new premises in the Farnham Road and a party of Slough and the German club’s Rotarians enjoyed viewing the up to date facilities and meeting children and staff. Bremen Hansa’s delegate Volker Galperin reported, “Our heart warming say at Arbour Vale School confirmed our feeling that we should combine efforts to make them the recipients of our anniversary twinning award. Bremen-Hansa’s initial award of Euro 1000 was matched by the Slough club and has since been increased to a total of £3250. During last week’s visit to the Rotary Club of Slough by ArbourVale’s head teacher, Debbie Richards, and Fundraising officer, Gail Burton, club President Surrinder Kumar handed over a presentation cheque for this amount. President Kumar reported that Slough Rotarians would be continuing their adoption programme this year and amongst their activities were looking forward to taking a party of Arbour Vale children and teachers for a ‘KidsOut’ day at the Thorpe Park entertainment centre in June.
