Beating the Bounds
Beating the Bounds is an ancient custom observed in many English parishes. The community would walk the boundaries of the parish to share the knowledge of where the boundaries lay, and to pray for protection and blessings for the lands.

Between the 2nd & 10th of May 2009, members of the public will have the opportunity to stroll around part or even all of the boundaries of Berkshire whilst raising funds for AGE CONCERN Berkshire and their own chosen charities.

This event is something the whole family can participate in, with walks ranging from 4 miles to 10 miles. Many stages take place on traffic - free routes, tow paths and long distance footpaths.

THERE IS NO NEED TO WALK EVERY STAGE. You can simply choose the morning or afternoon stage nearest your home or a stage or more that takes your interest and enjoy a walk in the beautiful Berkshire countryside whilst helping worthy causes.

“I am delighted to be Vice-Patron and look forward to joining our Patron, HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh at the start at 9.30am on Sat 2nd May in the Long Walk, Windsor.”

“Royal Berkshire is a beautiful county with a rich history. Celts, Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Roundheads & Cavaliers have all fought over it. You will pass many fascinating buildings. The historical notes for each stage will make this a walk through history.”

“The theme for my year Shrieval year is Bringing the Generations Together. How better than to have Youth, through BACYP, helping Rotary to raise money for the Elderly (Age Concern Berkshire)?
Happy walking!“
- Dr Christina Hill Williams DL – High Sheriff
