The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton donated the last £3000 shortfall to enable L/Cpl Simon Wiggins of The Coldstream Guards based in Windsor, to purchase his special adapted car after he lost his right leg in Helmand Province last March.

The Commanding Officers of both local regiments have traditionally been Hon Rotarians of The Windsor & Eton Club for many years. The links therefore between Rotary & the local regiments has always been a very strong one. LT Col George Waters, the CO when the Coldstreams were in Afghanistan, was very committed to Rotary & this connection now continues with LT Col Toby Gray the present CO.

David Shaw the PR Officer for The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton said how very pleased they were to have been able to help complete this project which has been supported by the whole regiment. It is important for local community groups such as ours to understand what it is like for our local soldiers & this opportunity to help in a small way is special. We wish L/Cpl Wiggins all the best for the future & it is marvellous that he is now able to continue his chosen career & serve his regiment.

Paul Bayley, President & Rotarian Chris Simon attended a party held to thank the local community for the help in getting the £20,000 and to the warrant officers that did Hougoumont Challenge. Ten warrant officers over 35, each did a 10.2 mile circuit around the barracks 4 times. They completed it within 60 hours with all of them carrying on with their jobs. Other soldiers raised money by taking part in the three peaks challenge.

On the night a cheque for £20,000 was handed over to Simon Wiggins to purchase his specially adapted car.
