Weston College Make a Splash with work skills qualifications

16 employers local to Weston College spent a day in the company of 120 Construction Students last week.
Not unusual you might say?
However in this case the employers were largely Environmental specialists from organisations identified by the college as strategically significant to support the establishment of the Colleges new centre of excellence in Enviro-tech for the construction industry.

Youth unemployment is costing the economy £10m a day in lost pro

The Guardian reported this month that an ‘aspect of the worrying trend in youth unemployment is that there are thousands of young people who don’t have the skills, confidence or qualifications to find their first job. They may have struggled at school or grown up thinking no one cared, and they are being driven further from the job market, as they struggle to compete with a backlog of graduates.’

Expanding FE Employability and Enterprise Skills Provision

Working Knowledge has entered the Barclays “Take One Small Step” business competition (https://www.takeonesmallstep.co.uk/Entry/View/2474/) which is a national business competition with regional prizes of £50,000 in cash. £50,000 would enable us to build capacity to deliver events to 5,000 more students and 1,000 employers this year and then enable those colleges to continue to provide the same every year thereafter.

Foundation Learning - The Basics

Foundation Learning is the new range of flexible learning programmes for young people and adults at Entry Level and Level 1.
It consists of units and qualifications from the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and is one of the four qualifications suites for 14–19 year old learners alongside General Qualifications, Diplomas and Apprenticeships
