Widening participation
Widening participation in learning helps students to achieve and succeed. Students who participate more readily in their education feel more engaged and have a greater sense of confidence which they are then likely to carry forward into their working lives as adults. The more that students participate in their learning and education, the more likely they are to report a sense of understanding what is required of them. In turn, this will lead to greater success, better integration with other students and a permanent boost in self-esteem.
Teaching wider key skills helps to strengthen students’ participation in their own education. Enterprise and business skills create inter-departmental student activity, leading to a more innovative and inventive approach to learning. This has been proven to have direct and positive impact on increasing retention rates in students at a crucial time in their education.
