Swindon College Splash
Swindon College were looking for a way to raise the aspirations of their students particularly with reference to future career choices.

Amanda Burnside, the Director of College Communications, first came across Ride the Wave at a Workshop delivered by one of our partner colleges (Redcar and Cleveland College) at the 2008 AOC conference. Amanda was struck not only by how Ride the Wave can positively influence and motivate students but also how the programme transformed the student-tutor relationship.

Swindon selected Level 2 students from 8 subject areas in which to pilot Ride the Wave through our one-day Splash event. At the event we collected the portfolio of evidence for the Wider Key Skill Working with Others at Level 1.

Students enjoyed the day as Rebecca Munday commented “ A much better way to teach key skills – has made me think you can do anything you believe in”

Local business people were invited to take part in the programme with the aim of engaging local employers and showcasing the talents of Swindon College's students. Thirteen business people - acted as 'experts' and certainly went away impressed

“A great opportunity to see young people preparing to leave education and enter the workplace. The future is in good hands”.Paul Clarkson, MD, PA2C Ltd

“Fun and informative event format fuelled by the great interaction between the young and the 'not-so-young' within a business context”. Ollie Flaherty, Bank Manager, Barclays
