Berkshire Property Unaffordable for Many
House prices in Berkshire are rising so high that, for many people, homeownership is simply out of the question.
The average property in Reading now costs over £200,000 and in Windsor and Maidenhead, that rises to £379,233, the BBC reports.
As a result, many people are being priced out of the market and being forced to either continue renting or to consider affordable housing, where they buy a percentage of a property and pay a subsidised rent on the remainder of the value.
However, affordable housing is not an option for everyone - family-sized properties are rare and many families find that they are pushed down the waiting list when a suitable property becomes available.
Heidi Standing revealed that her family is not viewed as a priority because they are not single parents.
"Single parents get more priority in Bracknell - I know a lot that have been given houses and that really does annoy me," she told BBC Berkshire.
"We struggle and I can't give up work because of my children. Maybe if I got rid of my husband and kicked him out?"
