A fabulous Charity Cabaret evening with Sir Michael Parkinson

Sir Michael Parkinson and Alison Davey
A fabulous Charity Cabaret evening with Sir Michael Parkinson at Wentworth

Darlings, we had a simply fab evening with Sir Michael Parkinson and his chums, helping to raise £50k for Alexander Devine Children’s Cancer Trust and get them that much closer to opening the doors on the first children’s hospice for Berkshire. Laurie Holloway on piano, Kenny Lynch and Rolf Harris singing some old classics and Bobby Davro on laughter with Frank McKay as compere for the evening. It was totally brilliant or as we’d say up north, it was a reet laff!

I’d prepared for the evening, taken the car for its annual wash earlier and had my hair cut, well it was at Wentworth !

7pm Champagne reception, but we got there just in time for a glass of champers for the Mrs and I ordered a nice Bacardi and coke to get me in the mood. Two minutes later and they called us into the Ballroom for dinner... perfect timing.

We met the other table guests and within minutes had organised ourselves so the ladies could chat and enjoy the best view of proceedings while the chaps could ensure close proximity to the bar! The food was great and the wine flowed, all that was needed was a spot of entertainment and we were in for a treat.

Sir Michael got the proceedings started by asking John and Fiona for an update on the charity. They certainly have moved things on a pace since I first met them, 18 months ago. Stevie Horton has brought her unstoppable style to the party and the dedication and commitment from John and Fiona is awe-inspiring- those doors will be opening on time!

Rolf Harris
Then Sir Michael introduced Frank McKay who was a brilliant master of ceremonies ensuring the evening was one to remember. Rolf singing two little boys brought tears to my eyes... as I remembered that rocking horse and how I nearly lost me tackle! Kenny Lynch looked younger than I remember, in fact they are all ageing really well... or it could have been the 2 hours in makeup before the gig??!!

Bobbi Davro and Kenny Lynch
Bobby Davro finished off the evening with a blast. He had us rolling in the aisles, hilarious, although I think a few of the older guests would have preferred someone a little gentler but hey, this was Sir Michael Parkinson's evening, as patron of Alexander Devine Children’s Cancer Trust.

Thank you Sir Michael and all your pals for a very special evening and well done everyone for raising nearly £50k on the night. Shame we didn’t win the star prize but next year we plan on having a healthy budget available for the auction!
