Positive Energy - X factor finalist admits 'it’s not my life

Doreen Paget, a primary school teacher from Solihull, who is through to the final stages of X-Factor, has admitted that ‘actually this does not mean the world to me’.

Mrs Paget, who only took up singing recently, had to enter the competition by herself. ‘I lost my whole family recently, but none of them had taken the time to apply for an entry form on my behalf. My parents did discuss it once, but thought I was unlikely to win.’ She added that being in the finals is not actually a dream come true ‘There’s a lot of hanging around practising saying “we’re all in it together now”, and “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster” and all that rubbish. It’s all got a bit tiresome to be honest.’

Mrs Paget added, “When I got through the first round I went back to the primary school accompanied by the X-Factor cameras, but the children didn’t seem overly impressed. Darren Hearne of Class 2 said ‘that’s really good Miss, but let’s face it, you’re not going to be the new Leona Lewis’.

Commenting on her prospects in the finals, Mrs Paget said “I think I’ve probably peaked. My audition was probably as good as I am capable of. I’ve not really got anything more to give.’

One other ‘boot-camp hopeful, Neil Carville, was delighted to have missed out on the final stages: ‘When Louis said ‘You’re going home’, I was actually quite relieved. The producers forced me to dedicate my performances to my dead mother. I felt a fraud. Despite what I said on TV, if I close my eyes, I can’t really see her face. It just looks sort of red.’
