Gorbals Mick shows he still has the balls

Unlike the tens of politicians sitting in the house of commons thinking they are already in the Lords and entitled to do what the heck they like and pilfer the communal pot, Gorbals Mick has shown he still has the balls and is standing down after working his notice.

Well done Mick and I sure you'll earn the respect of many who may have previously questioned your judgement, at least you have done the right thing.

There is sure to be a few bob in the speakers circuit, have a word with Tony, he'll put you right.

From Parliament - Statement from the Speaker

The Speaker of the House of Commons made a statement to the House at 2.30pm announcing that he will relinquish the office of Speaker on Sunday 21 June to allow the House to proceed to elect a new Speaker on Monday 22 June.

Of interest on the Parliament website:

Death by office! Nine unlucky Speakers
Today, Speakers might stay in office until they retire but some past Speakers had their stay cut unpleasantly short: nine Speakers died a violent death before 1560. There was one murder, one death during battle, and no fewer than seven beheadings - two on the same day!
