 Richard Benyon was elected as Conservative MP for Newbury on May 6th 2005, with a majority of 3,460, ending Newbury’s 12 years as a Liberal Democrat constituency.
In Parliament, Richard is one of 14 MPs on the influential Home Affairs Select Committee, which holds the Government to account on police powers, terrorism, immigration, the courts, drugs policy, and anti-social behaviour.
He is the Parliamentary Private Secretary to Lord Strathclyde, The Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords. He is also Parliamentary Private Secretary to David Cameron’s Head of Policy, Oliver Letwin MP. In addition he is a member of the back bench support team to the Conservative Health Team.
