MPs wish England and West Indies cricket captains well ahead of first Test
|
Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East and room-mate Shailesh Vara, Member of Parliament for North West Cambridgeshire, this week met with Andrew Strauss and Ramnaresh Sarwan, the captains of the England and West Indies cricket teams respectively.
The meetings took place at a reception hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Cricket ahead of the First Test between the two sides at Lords. Mr Wilson and Mr Vara wished both captains luck for the forthcoming coming series and asked about their teams’ chances. The whole of the England team attended the reception, along with some of the West Indies leading players. Rob Wilson MP said: “I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Andrew Strauss, Ramnaresh Sarwan and their team mates. I was at Lords when Strauss scored his first England hundred and we were able to reminisce about that. All the players were thoroughly professional and are a credit to their sport and to their nations. "I wished both the captains luck for the forthcoming series, although I confess that I hope luck doesn’t play too much of a part and that England will win comfortably." Mr Wilson did take the opportunity to have some fun though:. "As a member of the House of Commons cricket team I felt it important that I give both captains, and of course the world's number one batsman, Kevin Pieterson, a few useful tips - which probably accounts for the face he is pulling in the picture with me. "The pictures themselves were simply to give me bragging rights, as my son is a cricket nut! However, I will be taking him to a Test Match this summer, I will have no choice now." 17/05/07 |
