Herman Cortes was a Spanish Conquistador famous for leading the military conquest of Mexico. During the invasion of Mexico, Cortes oversaw the downfall of the Aztec Empire. In order to discover where the Aztecs kept their gold, Cortes put the feet of Cuauhtemoc, the Aztec Emperor, in a fire, an act that was highly unnecessary as the Spaniards already held most pf the Aztec gold. Cortes later ordered the execution by hanging of the last Aztec Emperor. He died in Seville, back in Spain, from a case of Pleurisy. Check out a more detailed biography here
