1981 The Human League Reach No.1 With 'Don't You Want Me'
The song is about a guy who turns a cocktail waitress into a star until their love goes sour. It was the first UK number one hit for Richard Branson’s Virgin Records label.

The song inspired a mini British invasion of the US by UK musicians, helped significantly by the arrival of MTV, which could only play videos they had in their library, which were mostly European made.

The song sold over 1.4 million copies and became the biggest selling UK single of 1981.
