1915 Frank Sinatra
Sinatra was one of the most popular entertainers of his time and his music still reverberates around the world to this day.

He is labeled alongside the like of Bing Crosby and Mr. Mercer as a ‘crooner,’ developing a type of soft swing music that many of his successors would try to emulate.

During his career, he was constantly hounded by allegations that he was linked to the Italian Mafia and that the organized crime gang had helped him out at various stages in his career and were thus responsible for much of his fame and fortune.

One of the mobsters, Joseph Stacher, recalled of a meeting between Sinatra and Luciano (the notorious mob boss), "The Italians among us were all very proud of Frank.

"They always told me they had spent a lot of money helping him in his career ever since he was in Tommy Dorsey’s band. Lucky Luciano was very fond of Frank’s singing. Frankie flew into Havana with the Fischettis, with whom he was very friendly, but of course, our meeting had nothing to do with hearing him croon.

"Everyone brought envelopes of money for Luciano. But more important, they came to pay allegiance to him."

Sinatra has sold over 250 million records worldwide.
