It's who you know...
Dave Clarke of NRG Business Networks attended the breakfast launch of a new business in Central London yesterday morning. He then had a meeting arranged in Reading at lunchtime with a friend recently returned from 3 years with Cable & Wireless in Barbados. He parked in Reading and got the train to and from London. On the return journey he left his bag containing his mobile office on the train.
Dave called the First Great Western with no luck. He called their lost property company and then the station with the final destination (Bristol). He learned that he wouldn't be able to find out until at least 6 hours later whether the bag had been handed in or not. He called home to get the number of a friend who is a train driver. By coincidence he was on his way to Bristol to start work and got there as Dave's bag was being delivered to the lost property office. Panic over. A couple of weeks previously Dave had helped him with a problem with a new computer in return for a few beers. The beers are definitely on Dave this time.
Definitely a case of not what you know, but who you know.
