Since then ECON has run regular monthly meetings with the aim of providing a supportive environment where business relationships are formed, leadership and business skills are developed. The meetings are centred around an expert speaker on a particular business topic and one or two other planned activities which encourage sharing of information, execution of ideas, relationship building and the development of effective business strategies. Core values of the group include encouraging openness, fostering trust, creating a supportive business environment, member capability demonstration, local business influence and integrity. Fees generated from meetings are used to reimburse speakers’ travel expenses, room hire and other operational expenses. ECON does not compete with any other networking groups but rather aims to collaborate and support them through joint and reciprocated promotions. Whilst ECON has emerged from an online business networking group called ecademy, attendees do not need to be members of ecademy (there are additional benefits to those who are) or any other organisation – all are welcome.
