Verizon stake 'kept by Vodafone'
Vodafone, which has a base in Newbury, has stated that it wants to keep hold of the 45 per cent stake that it has in Verizon Wireless.
The UK mobile telecoms operator turned down the opportunity to sell $10 billion (£4.9 billion) in shares to another shareholder in the US firm.
Afterwards, Vodafone stated that the growth opportunities in Verizon are still strong and give a good option for expansion. The 45 per cent interest remains a worthwhile coup for shareholders, it added.
The company also believes that its asset will increase in value in the future, the Independent stated. Such a proposal to sell the stake was raised by the businessman John Mayo, the paper added.
Verizon communications has for a long time stated its desire to buy the stake in Verizon Wireless back off the hands of the Berkshire-based company.
Currently, Vodafone is the largest mobile telecoms company in Europe, it states, having been established in 1985.
