'Growing numbers' switching to wireless
A new survey by the European commission has found that a growing number of Europeans are switching to mobile telecoms and broadband services.
According to the report, one in three households now also have some kind of broadband access.
It follows findings from BT that the number of small businesses using broadband has risen to 95 per cent.
The proportion of homes using fixed-lines has decreased to 72 per cent.
Increased flexibility was cited as one of the main reasons for the increased usage of new technologies by companies.
"Britain's small businesses are critical to the health of the UK economy and broadband is becoming central in helping them to thrive without compromising other aspects of their lives," said the managing director of BT business Bill Murphy.
One-third of smaller businesses also believe that doing work outside of the office enhances the work-life balance of their employees.
